Workforce Development

A team of researchers from the Clinton School of Public Service spent the 2025-2026 academic year evaluating the outdoor recreation workforce in Arkansas, and producing a report for the Office of Outdoor Recreation.

The project assesses employer workforce needs, existing training and education programs, alignment between needs and program offerings, and best practices for outdoor recreation workforce development from other states. Ultimately, the project addresses the need for a skilled workforce to sustain industry growth, support local economies, and ensure safe and responsible recreation.

The project summary and full academic report can be found below. This work is helping the Office of Outdoor Recreation better understand workforce needs and opportunities, and plan for the future of outdoor recreation and tourism careers across our state.

Our deepest thanks to the students and faculty who poured months of effort into this project!
